From consulting to scootering, Fernando blends passion with performance.
As the temperatures drop, staying warm and stylish on your rides is essential. We've got you covered with the best winter riding tips to keep you comfortable and safe on your scooter this winter.
From thermal gloves to armoured jackets, discover the best tips to make your winter rides enjoyable. Don’t let the cold weather stop you from hitting the road!
When it comes to warmth, not much beats wool. “Having a wool neck gaiter has been a total game changer for me” says Fonz Moto Finance Manger, Asheleigh.
Ash picked her Merino Wool Neck Gaiter from our friends at Merla Moto, around the corner from FONZ HQ, and it's been amazing.
It may seem obvious but it's surprising to see the number of riders that don’t wear a decent jacket. There are remarkably stylish moto options these days that have removable armour so you can transition from the road to street without looking bulky.
When choosing a motorbike jacket, check that the armour is easy to remove and if you really feel the cold, choose a jacket that covers down to your lower back to stay warm and comfortable.
Fonz Moto's Onboarding Coordinator, Laura, is a big fan of Merla’s fleece lined Dakota Jacket. It also comes in a men’s cut.
Half of team FONZ own a Bell Bullitt helmet. We love the clean lines and retro styling that compliments the Fonz line up. The Bullitt is second to none for peripheral vision.
Fonz Sales & Partnerships Manager, Tim Arndt has a glossy red one and says he likes the Bullitt because it is stylish, comfy and safe.
“A full face helmet is more pleasant riding in winter or rainy days and the magnetic straps for the visor are easy to use.”
There are other similar designs on the market with the great peripheral vision. If you want the decals and widest colour range the Bullitt wins hands down.
While we all own a stylish raincoat, many scooter commuters won’t have this staple item.
"Over the years I’ve seen too many scooter riders in our team under the hand dryer at work. You’ll inevitably get caught out using the hand dryer at work to save your soaked jeans" says Fonz CEO Michelle
With water-proof seams, adjustable ankles (to protect your socks too) and reflective areas for added visibility Michelle’s pick is the Oxford Rainseal Pants.
“They mightn’t be pretty but damn they’re practical. Even if you don’t usually ride in the rain, do yourself a favour and get this wet weather essential rolled up in your glovebox!"
Fonz Service Manager says the most important thing is gloves. And not any old Summer gloves. Proper winter gloves.
“As a rider from Ireland where the weather stays persistently wet and cold for the majority of the year a pair of reliable warm, waterproof gloves is indispensable. They shield against both the rain and biting wind, keeping my hands responsive as I navigate the damp roads and windy trails.”
Whether you’re a fair weather rider or brave the rain it’s important to have the right gear for comfort and safety.
Fonz's newly appointed dealership manager Jordi Espin is a lover of the thermals. Its no surprise given Jordi is Melbourne based.
"My top tip is getting thermal underwear and t-shirt. It may sound extreme but its incredible what a difference it makes for me riding in the winter.”
