Riding Adventures & Culinary Passions

We catch up with Phillip Davenport, a celebrated chef, food and travel show host, and proud new dad, as he shares his culinary explorations and riding adventures.

Why did you start riding scooters?

I’ve been riding for almost 20 years. I moved to Bali in 2006 to head up a beach club & restaurant called KU DE TA. I ended up in Indo for seven years. Having a scooter is essential to getting around over there.

Since then, I’ve been based out of Sydney, working as a chef consultant and hosting my own food and travel show. With a fast-paced lifestyle, it was only natural to continue riding. I’ve now been on scooters for over a decade here in Australia.

Tell us about the show

My show is an exploration of the top restaurants in five-star hotels, uncovering the secrets behind the signature dishes of world-class chefs like Nancy Silverton, Daniel Boulud and Wolfgang Puck. Cooking alongside these legends and experiencing cutting-edge fine-dining is a privilege.

Why go electric?

My Arthur is a no-fuss way to get around, it’s ready to go when I pull out of my garage so I don’t even think about going to a petrol station.

Since becoming a father, I’ve started thinking more about the environment and my family’s future. Riding an electric scooter aligns with my values—it’s a step in the right direction for the planet.

What’s your favourite ride?

I’m mostly a commuter rider, so city convenience is key. Parking is a breeze, and I can get so much done in a day without the usual hassles.

Getting off the beaten path is amazing too.

Last year I took a motorcycle adventure trip on a CRF300 around the north of Vietnam. I think Vietnam has some of the world’s best street food. Eating a proper bun cha, grilled meatballs stuffed in betel leaf, the sweet broth. The fresh herbs. The food was all frickin delicious. Being welcomed into people’s homes for feasts and trying their signature home-style cooking is an incredible honour.
